Drama at the Dentist

Today I went to the dentist for these fillings that were still hurting. He adjusting the fillings and hopefully this is the last visit. Although I am not a fan of the dentist, one of the nice things about our dentist is that he always runs on schedule. Unfortunately today, that was not the case. Apparently while I was in the waiting room, his dental assistant "walked out in a snit" as he put it and left them in a bit of a bind. The dentist was having to call his wife and ask her to come fill in as his dental assistant until he could get things sorted out.

Vegetables & Flowers

I got my first vegetables from my garden today. I was able to pick 6 snow pea pods. Everything is looking great and I think in the next few weeks I will see lots of veggies. Also my first daylily bloomed today. They are looking so pretty and there are lots more that are close to opening. My neighbor really wants me to give her a cutting off of the daylily next year, but I am going to have to think about it - I kind of like being the only one on the block with daylilies.

Exhausted

We have had a very productive, but busy weekend. On Saturday we got up early and planned to reorganize the garage to fit the new shelving we had purchased. The temp was nice outside and before we knew it that turned in to cleaning and reorganizing the whole garage. Then we stepped out to go grab a bite to eat and buy groceries. After that, we still had a little energy, so we mowed the front lawn including edging and trimming the bushes. We were officially exhausted, so we called it a day around 8pm and went in to have leftovers for dinner. Today, we got up and mowed, edged, and seeded the back yard. That didn't take long, but considering we were still tired from yesterday it took longer that normal. After that we went to Snuffy's to have a burger then to Lowe's (our official second home these days) and back to the house. Now I still need to finish laundry and finish my paper for school. My portion of the paper is done, I just need one of my team mates to add his portion and it is ready to submit. A very busy and exhausting weekend, but very productive.

What an Idiot

You have all heard me complain about my idiot professor and I promise this will be the last time. Yesterday he sent us an email letting us know that our last in-class meeting will be on 5/14 instead of 4/30 and that we should be prepared to do our in class presentations on that day. In addition, he will make our final available online 4/30 and we have to turn it in to him no later than 5/14. Now, most people would be thrilled at a 2 week extension, but there are a few problems with this situation. First, according to the academic calendar, the last official class lecture is to be held on 5/3. Then finals week is scheduled for 5/4 to 5/11 so that grades can be sent to the registrar no later than 5/12. No problem that he gives us a final early, but if we turn it in on 5/14 that is 2 days after the official grades are due to the registrar. Oh, and by the way, the classrooms and the campus are officially closed that day. Lastly, we are supposed to meet at 6:30pm on 5/14; however, the commencement exercises (for which at least 2 people in my class should be participating) begin at 6pm on that same day.

Several of us have reached out to him about this bizarre email. To no one's surprise, he has not responded. Today I plan to call the head of the department to find out what is going on. This guy is a total idiot. Thankfully, he is just an adjunct professor at my school; however, he works full time at a very high profile school in our area.

Last Meeting

Thankfully tonight it is last team meeting for my school project. This has been a tough class. Not because of the work, writing papers is actually pretty easy; it has been tough because of the overall class experience. My professor (it is really hard to call him that) put himself to sleep during one of his lectures, his presentation material has another instructors name and he says he is not changing it out of respect for that professor (what a load of crap), he won't return phone calls or emails when you need assistance, all of our work is in a group project (so we can learn how to figure things out as a team) and he still hasn't graded some of our work that was turned in back in mid February. What are the lessons that I have learned from this class? I have learned what professor never to select again!

Our Yard

Hubby and I spend a great deal of time working in our yard. He is very diligent about doing weed and feed, he walks the yard daily looking for unwanted weeds and pulls them by hand; when we mow the lawn, I always over seed to make sure any sparse areas fill in. We have one neighbor that asked what we do because she really wanted her yard to be as green as ours (hers was really brown). Now today, I heard the neighbor on the other side talking to her husband and asking why our yard was green and theirs was brown. They don't spend a lot of time working on their yards and that is okay; they spend their time doing other things. We find it relaxing to be outside drinking a beer, doing little things to the yard while the dogs are running and playing. That's just our thing.

Who knows, maybe this year we will even win yard of the month and the nice Lowe's gift card that goes along with it!

Daylily Plants

I can't wait for my Stella de Oro Daylily plants to bloom. I have 9 plants that are beautiful and when I counted today I have over 100 buds on them getting ready to bloom (I stopped counting at 116). I also have an Orange Crush Daylily plant that isn't ready to bloom and 2 Halcyon Plantain Lily plants that have already had babies. When they bloom they should be a lavender color. I will be sure to post a picture when everything blooms.

Good News

We got a call from the vet yesterday and thankfully Abbie's T-4 test results were normal. The original test showed low because of her seizure medication. Whew.

Weird Dream

Okay, hubby is officially banned from asking me about work for at least 2 hours before bed. Last night while we were laying in bed and watching television hubby asked me a couple of questions about my work. No big deal, they were normal questions about educational assistance stuff. Well, last night I had the strangest dreams. In my dream I was getting ready to eat tacos and just as I would get ready to take a bite there would be the face of a gopher or some kind of chipmunk looking thing asking me about his educational assistance. He would ask different questions; did I get his paperwork, have I made a decision yet, when is he going to get his payment. After several times of trying to take a bite of the taco and this little rodent asking me a questions, his whiskers tickled my nose and I woke wake up a little. I fell back asleep and then the little rodent was running around the room singing in this Alvin and the Chipmunks voice about educational assistance to the tune of "all the single ladies". I don't remember the jingle, I just remember wishing he would be quiet. This time the alarm went off and woke me up. I am really dragging this morning and guess what is on my desk to be handled when I get to work.... educational assistance.

Vet Bill

Abbie had her annual check up this week and of course her vet bill was expensive. Since she has seizures we always have to check her phenobarbital levels annually so I expect that her vet bill will run $200+. This year by the time we are done it will be almost double. She had an infection in her eyes (most likely from allergies) and then her T4 level came back low. This meant another test and an additional cost. Now we are waiting on the T4 level test to see if there is an issue with her thyroid or if the test is showing low because of the medication she is taking (phenobarbital is known to make the T4 test show low). I love my babies so we do what we have to do. Nash is due up next and I suspect he will need some dental work. Ugh.

Hair

Growing up my mother was constantly changing her hair. She would change the style from time to time, but mostly she changed the color. It was not unusual to come home from school and her hair would be blond, black, red, it was even green once when the color mix didn't work right. Well, to some degree, I am the same way with my hair. I have had it long and short as well as a variety of colors. Currently my hair is short (pixie style cut) and is very red. Think Sharon Osborne red. I found out today that apparently my hair is the talk of the neighbors. They were shocked to see my hair color. Wait until the see the next color. I have already decided to try perhaps a dirty blond. I have never been blond before, so why not. Hubby wants me to shave my head or do a buzz cut, but I am not ready to go there yet.

TGIF

Thank goodness it's Friday. I am tired today and feel like I need a few more hours of sleep.

Grad School

I am patiently waiting (okay maybe not so patiently) to register for next semester in school. I have one class that I can take, I have already gotten my work schedule rearranged to fit the class, and I have been trying every day to see if they have posted my registration time. Today it was finally posted - noon on the first day of registration. Noon? Really? This particular class fills up so quickly that I am going to need to be sure that I am ready to register exactly at noon because I don't have a back up class I can take. So far this semester, grad school has been a lesson in patience and frustration. The professor puts himself to sleep during class (not a joke - it actually happened) and he hasn't graded papers that we turned in back in February. My team project is going very slow, so I just keep nudging my team mates to get their portion of the project done so I can get my portion done (I have to write the "conclusions" section of the project) and move on to the next semester. This is why I prefer individual projects over team projects.

Greys Anatomy & Private Practice

I have been a Greys Anatomy and Private Practice fan from the very beginning. Unfortunately, it seems like the shows have become more about who is sleeping with who than about the other story lines. I am starting to get a little bored with them. Come on writers, get back to what made the show good in the beginning; the stuff that drew us to get hooked on the show.

First Dog

One of my coworkers got her first dog this weekend. She has been thinking about it for a really long time and just happened to drive by one of the pet stores and saw the rescue group outside. This little pup caught her attention and so she made the leap into puppy parenthood. Unfortunately, the friends who were with her told her all of the easy things about raising a puppy and forgot to tell her about the not so easy parts like potty trips outside every 2 hours and how little sleep you get until they settle in to their new routine. She was a little frustrated today from lack of sleep, but after we talked for a while hopefully she will enjoy the new puppy.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone has a happy Easter and gets to spend it doing exactly what they want. We will be spending ours quietly at home watching movies and just relaxing.

Happy Easter.

Baby Maddox Has Arrived

I received a text from my brother today that baby Maddox finally arrived. He was born at 8:29am weighing 8.5 pounds and 21 inches long. I can't wait to see his first picture and hopefully this summer see both him and Seth.

Plantain Halcyon Lily

In October/November last year, I was in Lowe's and they had some plants on discount. They looked pretty sad, but they were only a quarter so I decided to by 2 of them. They were called Plantain Halcyon Lily. It was really hard to tell what they were supposed to look like, but for a quarter what did I have to lose. About 3 weeks ago, I checked them and the roots were still good, so I planted them in the ground. Today I noticed that at least one and maybe both of them are going to come back to life. I can't wait to see the lavender colored flowers they make.

Thank You

One the way to work today I started feeling really sick. I just kept talking to myself and saying "just make it to work and you will be fine". Well about the 1/2 way mark I knew I wasn't going to make it to the office before being ill, so I found a convenience store and pulled over. I barely made it out of my car before I got really sick. I was a mess, I had "stuff" all over my shoes and my clothes. Thankfully some really nice lady who had apparently stopped to get her morning coffee came over and asked if I needed some help. She went inside and got me a bottle of water. I was so embarrassed, but I felt so horrible I gladly accepted the help. I had some napkins in my car and was able to wipe myself off enough to not get the mess all over my car. I turned around and came back home. So, whomever that really nice lady was.... Thank You for starting out your morning taking care of me.
