Subaru Dog Commercials

There are several of the Subaru Dog commercials, but this one is my favorite.  It is titled Donuts.  If my dogs could drive, this is exactly what I would expect from them.

Allergies

Austin is known for it's allergies and this week has been really bad.  It's not so much the drippy nose and cough, but the sinus pressure and miserable headache.  It feels like someone punched you in the face.  I have found that the Wal-Mart version of their sinus medicine works better than anything else.  Unfortunately, this week even that has not worked.

Filing

Ever noticed that your filing at home just piles up?  Or maybe it's just my household paperwork that just piles up.  I have great intentions of getting to it, it just doesn't happen.  Here's how it goes in my house.  I receive a piece of mail that needs to be saved or I pay a bill and my portion needs to be filed away.  I put it in the basket o my desk because I need to move on to something else more important, or it seems more important at the time.  I promise myself I am going to just leave it in the basket for a few minutes and I will file it the next time I am at my desk.  Several days go by and that basket is still in the same position with all of the same papers needing to be filed - out of sight, out of mind.  Next thing you know. a few weeks have gone by and the filing just doesn't seem as important any more. I convince myself I know exactly what's in the basket, so it can wait while I finish whatever is more important at this time.  Next thing you know, that basket is full and now it seems overwhelming.  How in the world did that basket get so blasted full?  Then hubby asks a question or needs to find a document.  Oh crap, please don't be in that basket.  Unfortunately, it is always in that basket.  After hubby has to dig through the basket and I start to feel guilty about it being such a mess, then everything gets filed.

I really need to figure out a way to go from the part where I received the mail or paid the bill straight to the part where everything gets filed.

Garden

This weekend, hubby put out the second garden plot and set up the additional fencing.  It is going to look really nice when it is done.  He also uncovered the flowers out front so they can begin peeking through.  I am really excited about getting a garden going.  I just need to get myself and my time better organized.

Tired

My dream last name made me really tired this morning.  I dreamt that I was riding in a vehicle of some kind.  I am not sure what kind, because sometimes we were on water, sometimes we were in the air, and other times we were on land.  It was always bouncing around a lot and I was hanging on for dear life with one hand while trying to write something with the other.  I have no idea what I was trying to write, I could never see the paper.  When I woke up this morning, all of my muscles were tensed up and I was really tired.  It really makes me curious as to where I was going and what I was trying to write.

Harold E. Larsen Lithograph

Hubby and I have had a picture frame with a Casablanca poster hanging in our bedroom for about 20 years.  We found the picture frame when I worked in the apartment industry and it was empty - just the frame and a white backing.  Last week we were in Target and they had a nice wood poster frame on clearance ($6 and was originally $30), so we thought it was time to upgrade the Casablanca poster.  We took the old frame apart and was ready to put the poster in the new frame when hubby mentioned that the white backing paper on the old frame was really thick.  He turned it over to discover it was lithograph with a beautful southwest landscape scene on the other side.  On the picture it has "Presden Gallery, Harold E. Larsen, Sante Fe, New Mexico".  We decided to put Casablanca back in the original frame and the lithograph in the new frame.  It will look really nice hanging in the guest room.

We hear about people finding cool stuff like that, but it has never happened to us.  Now, I just need to see what I can find out about Harold E. Larsen.

Lent

I am not Catholic, but this year I gave up something for Lent.  I gave up the ability to argue back when hubby is picking on me or giving me crap about something - which he loves to do frequently.  It's all in fun, so I didn't mind giving it up - at first.  I really have a hard time not giving him crap back.  So, when he is picking on me about something and I am getting ready to give it back, he just says "Lent isn't over yet".  This was a really bad decision.  This is the second time in our marriage I took a sucker bet from him.  The first time I ended up with a tattoo - yes a permanent one.  You would think I would have learned from the first time.

Only 70 more days til Lent is over.

Spay Day 2011

I decided to enter Riley in the Spay Day 2011 contest.  I think she has a cute face and maybe she can raise some money for a local animal shelter in the process.  Go check out Riley's entry when you have a chance.  She is the 5th picture in the 3rd row.

Shameless

There is a new Showtime series out called Shameless and it is quickly becoming my new favorite show.  It is so easy to get caught up in to their story.  There are 6 kids who are doing whatever is necessary to survive because Dad uses all of his disability money at the local bar.  Some of the things they do are a little crazy, but the show is great to watch.  You should try to catch an episode if possible.

Super Bowl Commercials

Normally I put one of my favorite Super Bowl commercials on my blog, but this year nothing really jumped out at me as being really great.  I like the VW commercial with the little Darth Vader and the beetle that was speeding around was cute (I don't remember what it was advertising), but nothing jumped out as being great.  There was one commercial that got the most reaction in my house and that was the Go Daddy commercial with Joan Rivers.  When they finally panned up to her face, everyone made a loud "ugh" follow by a dry heave sound.  I honestly thought one or two of them were going to spit pizza on my floor.

Did you have a favorite commercial?

Super Bowl Party

Every year a group of us get together for a super bowl party at someones house.  This year it is at our house.  We are only expecting between 5 & 7 people, so it should be fun.  I picked up Papa Murphy's pizza and salads.  Three of their family sized pizza's will be more than enough to feed everyone with leftovers.  Two of the guests will be teenage girls who could care less about the game, so we have a room set up for them with internet and television so they can entertain themselves.  This will be the first gathering we have hosted at our house, so I think it will be fun.

Winter Blast

Today we have a nice winter blast in Austin.  When I woke up this morning, there was snow covering the ground.  I still headed in to work, but about an hour later than normal.  When I got there, it was just myself and one member of my team.  All of the others decided they didn't want to risk the weather.  We didn't stay all day, but we were able to get quite a bit accomplished.

Rolling Blackouts

Yesterday we had rolling blackouts across the state.  Apparently, due to the weather, the power grids are being taxed, so Texas was doing rolling blackouts last up to 30 minutes each time across the state.  My building was on a backup generator, so we didn't notice anything while I was at work.  However, hubby said it happened several times during the day while he was at home.

If people would just do their part to try to save energy, we would not be in this situation.  Don't leave every light in the house on; change your bulbs to the more energy efficient bulbs; and, most definitely don't crank up your heater when the temperature drops below 50.  Hubby and I don't live a "green" lifestyle, but we try to do our part to conserve.

Walgreens Pricing

I really like Walgreens because they are so convenient.  Pretty much anywhere in town, there is a Walgreens near.  In fact, we have 3 that are within a 5 mile radius of my house.  Unfortunately, the prices seem to be getting higher lately.  I recently noticed this glaring price issue with benadryl (Abbie needs it daily for her allergies).  At Target, Wal-Mart, and HEB, the cost for name brand of Benadryl is about $10 for 100 tablets.  If you want their store brand, your can get the same quantity for about $4.  I checked the pricing at Walgreens and the name brand is about $17 and the store brand was $12.  That is such a ridiculous price difference between.  Needless to say, I did not buy my benadryl at Walgreens.  I drove out of my way to go find a Target who had it in stock.
