Transition Lenses

Hubby and I both have transition lenses on our glasses.  I have always had really good luck with mine, but he has not been so lucky.  On his last 2 pair, the transition film begins to peel around the edges and they don't transition as well as they should.  Yesterday we went to buy hubby some new glasses because the transition film on his current pair are so bad it is now getting in to his line of sight.  While we were at LensCrafters, we mentioned this to the guy helping us and he said that they have now changed the technology for the transition feature.  Instead of it being a film that is applied on to the lens, it is actually made in to the lens now.

We also asked the guy why hubby's glasses would peel and mine would not.  We bought them at the exact same location.  He said perhaps it is the way they are cared for.  Nope that's not it - we use the exact same cleaning materials - in fact, I do the majority of the cleaning of both pairs.  The other suggestion he offered is that it may have something to do with the chemical makeup of our skin.  Okay, that I can believe.

It will be about 10-12 days before hubby's glasses are ready (he has a really strong prescription), so I am hopeful that this pair will be better than the others.

Asparagus

Asparagus is probably one of my favorite vegetables.  As a kid, I wouldn't touch it, but not I love it.  Grilled is my favorite.  But have you ever noticed that your body begins to process the asparagus right away.  Without being too detailed, the asparagus causes a very strong odor in the urine.  I wonder what in the asparagus makes this happen?

I know it is a weird thing to think about, but it just came to my mind as I was having my lunch and eating left over asparagus.

Off A Day

For some reason, I thought today was Wednesday.  It wasn't until I got home from work and was looking at what hubby had recorded on the TV to watch, that I realized it was Tuesday.  That is actually a good thing because I really need the additional day in my week.

Fantastic Team

I have a fantastic team that works for me.  Last week while I was working from home, one of the girls on my team came to my house everyday to bring paperwork that I needed and to take back the stuff I had completed the day before.  The on Friday, two of the ladies, came out to my house and had lunch with me.  Not only was it great to see them, they brought me homemade enchiladas, rice, and a salad.  They wouldn't even let me serve myself.  They made themselves at home, heated up the lunch, served me, and then washed the dishes.  They left all of the leftovers for us to have for dinner.  That was way above and beyond, and so very appreciated.  I know my team would do anything for me and I would do the same for them.  It is such a great feeling.  I head back to the office tomorrow and I am ready to get back to my normal routine.

Working from Home

I have been working from home all week and I admit it has been nice to work in my pajamas.  I know for a fact though, that I see my family less when I work from home versus when I work in the office.  Working from home, the laptop is constantly going and my focus is drawn to it instead of my family.

Although working from home is nice from time to time, I don't think working from home on a permanent basis would be for me.  I am not sure how those folks who do work from home permanently manage to get a good balance between work and family.

The Green One

This shirt was in the stuff that I sent my nephew for Christmas.  Apparently it has become his favorite shirt.  My brother says they literally have to sneak the shirt away from him to even put it in the wash.  When he isn't wearing the shirt he is carrying it around as a woobie like Linus from Charlie Brown.  One day my brother sent me a text saying Seth was running around screaming 'the green one" and trying to put it on over his other shirt.  They had to dig it out of the dirty clothes and give it to him.

Independence

Today is my first day of being able to get up and be somewhat independent.  I got up and let out the dogs.  I was a bit nervous because the lab mix likes to jump on you and stretch first thing in the morning.  She was really good and didn't try to jump on me.  Each dog has a "baby" they sleep with at night.  I couldn't pull those out of their beds, but the rest went really smoothly.  I think today we are also going to go out to get some dog food  and then to office depot for some work from home supplies.

All in all, the advice my brother and sister-in-law gave me was great and hubby deserves the "nurse of the year" award for always being there to take care of me.  During the 22 (almost 23) years that we have been married, he has taken care of me through 6 surgeries now.  I have only had to take care of him through 1 or 2.

Hernia Repair

I have been away from my computer the past few days because I have been recovering from hernia repair surgery.  I am a horrible patient and usually drive my husband crazy, so I promised I would be better this time.  I vowed to do exactly as he said, no matter how hard it was.  My brother and sister-in-law, who are both nurses, advised me to stay in bed for 2 days following the surgery and then take it slow from there.  I had the surgery on Thursday afternoon and stayed in bed Friday and Saturday.  That was really good advice, because getting up and moving around today was not too bad.  Unfortunately, my surgery was not laproscopic, so it will take a little longer to heal.  I think I am doing really well.  Hopefully tomorrow hubby will let me go run a couple of errands with him.  I won't be able to get out of the car and lift stuff, but it will be nice to just go outside.

City Council Board

I have been appointed to a board for our local city government and this morning I completed  my Texas Open Meetings training.  It was actually more informative that I anticipated.  Some things that I would not have necessarily considered a "meeting" could actually be considered a meeting under the Open Meetings Act.  Such as 3 members of a 5 member board discussing the board business while sitting on the sidelines at a sporting event.  Since the majority of the board members are present and they are discussing board business, that is technically a meeting and is in violation of the Open Meetings Act.  I am looking forward to serving on a city government board.  I have wanted to participate in the city government for a while and this will give me the chance.

Ethics Paper

I am writing a paper on Ethics as a final paper for a class and I have 7 pages left.  For some reason, I am having a hard time making it long enough (this is normally not a problem).  I have sufficient content to make my point, but it needs to be longer.  I have today and tomorrow to get it finished, so I am off to go type more about Ethics.

Newer Wasn't Better

My computer is considered old as computers go (7 years), but it still works great.  Hubby bought me a modem so my wireless connection speed would be faster.  The one that came with the laptop still worked, but was a little slow.  After he installed the new modem, I noticed that my computer was even slower than before.  Hubby did some of his magic, but sure enough the speeds were still slower.  As it turns out, the newer modem it too new for my computer.  He uninstalled the new modem and the speed picked back up to where it was before.

Whirlwind

The last two days seem like they have gone by in a whirlwind.  Tuesday was super busy at work.  It was so busy that I brought work home and by the time I finished my work and a couple of things that needed to be done around the house, it was already midnight. Yesterday was another long day.  I had an early morning doctors appointment and then headed to a meeting that lasted from 8-5 and resumed from 6-9 over dinner.  Today the meeting picks back up at 8:30 - ugh.

On a positive note, my cholesterol numbers were great so the doctor was super happy (the credit goes to hubby for coming up with a game plan and making me stick to it).  Also, it turns out the statistics software I need for my class that starts in a couple of weeks is actually free through the school - woo hoo!

Belated Christmas Gift

Today I received a belated Christmas gift from my brother.  It was a coffee mug, with 2 pictures of my nephews and 1 picture of my brother and sister-in-law.  When I opened the box, it brought tears to my eyes.  I absolutely love it.

Super Bowl

This year the Super Bowl gathering is at our house.  I am looking forward to it because this is the first time the "gang" has been to our house.  We still have over a month before the game, but I am already doing some planning in advance.  I already have the menu planned out - Papa Murphy's pizza.  Now we just have to get our house the way we want it; primarily, pictures up on the wall.

Happy New Year

Last night hubby and I went to a friends house and we celebrated in the new year with a group of friends.  There were 7 of us and we had a taco bar with drinks and lots of fun just hanging out.  When it was the last minute before midnight, our friend passed out glasses of champagne and noise makers to everyone.  We all counted down and at the stroke of midnight we all blew our noise makers to ring in the new year, but as we all started blowing nothing was happening.  Turns out the whole bag of noise makers were duds - not a peep coming out.  That of course sent us in to a huge round of laughter and then we toasted in the new year.

How did you ring in the new year?
