Neti Pot

Austin is known as the "Live Music Capitol of the World, but some of us think it should also be known as the "Allergy Capitol of the World."  People who have never dealt with allergies before, will get allergies at some point when they come to Austin, it is inevitable.  Some people are lucky and they just deal with allergies during the spring, unfortunately, I am not one of those lucky ones.  I have always used allergies meds, but now I have decided to use a different approach.  Instead of using decongestants and antihistamines, I have decided to use a neti pot and attack my allergies that way.  My symptoms are in my nose, so why not.  I have been scare of trying a neti pot for years because I have always heard it makes you feel like you are drowning.  That is a feeling I can't handle.  So, with my new determination, I purchased a neti pot and tried it for the first time.  Yes, it felt uncomfortable at first, but as soon as it broke through that clog and started flowing, it felt great.  Afterwards I felt like I had been swimming and gotten water up my nose, but when that feeling went away, I could breathe freely again.  I will definitely keep using the neti pot and see if that helps my allergies.

Strawberries

I love the smell and taste of strawberries. I like them fresh, frozen, even the artificial flavoring; however, there is one small problem..... I am allergic to them. Or at least the last time I ate them, which was in high school, I had an allergic reaction. Nothing serious, just a rash with lots of itching. So, I have come up with a brilliant plan so that I can eat strawberries. I am going to desensitize myself to them. The way I plan to do this is to eat so many that my body just gets used to them. Will it work? Who knows, but I will have fun trying. Oh, and yes, I plan to have plenty of benadryl on hand when I do it.

Allergies

Today my allergies are in overdrive. I woke up at 2:30am coughing, so I drank some water and put a cough drop in my mouth to sleep. About an hour later I woke up and my mouth was so dry the cough drop was stuck to the roof of my mouth. I went ahead and headed to work, but felt like crap. I only lasted 1/2 day before I started running a fever and headed home. I have been struggling with allergies for about 3 weeks now, but just as I start to feel better, something happens and they get out of control again. Today my ears really started hurting and that combined with the fever usually means an ear infection is coming. I hope not, I hate those. I am being good and using my ear drops regularly to try and prevent an ear infection, but right now I really just want to curl up in a ball and sleep.
